Frequently asked questions

What is Strength After Service?

Strength After Service is a veteran-led, trauma-informed yoga program designed specifically for veterans. Classes focus on nervous system regulation, functional strength, and rebuilding trust in the body after military service.

This is not performance-based yoga and not a clinical program.

Is this spiritual or religious?

No. Strength After Service is not spiritual, religious, or philosophical. There is no chanting, no rituals, and no expectation to engage in spiritual practices.

Do I have to talk or share personal experiences?

No. There is no required sharing at any point. You are welcome to participate quietly and leave when class ends.

Is this therapy or mental health treatment?

No. This is a non-clinical movement practice. While it may support stress regulation and overall well-being, it is not therapy or a replacement for medical or mental health care.

Do I need yoga experience?

No. Classes are designed for beginners and those with no prior yoga experience.

What if I’m not flexible or have injuries?

That’s okay. Classes are adaptable for all fitness levels and can be modified for injuries, chronic pain, or limited mobility. You are encouraged to work within your own comfort level at all times.

Will I be touched or physically adjusted?

No. There are no hands-on adjustments.

What if I feel overwhelmed during class?

You remain in control at all times. You may pause, modify, step out, or stop participating whenever you choose. Options are always provided.

Do I have to close my eyes or lie down?

No. All cues are optional. Alternatives are always offered.

Is this only for veterans with PTSD?

No. Strength After Service is for veterans of all backgrounds, branches, and experiences who are interested in a structured, respectful movement practice.

What should I bring or wear?

Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. Mats and basic props will be provided unless otherwise noted.

Why trauma-informed yoga?

Military service often required overriding physical and emotional signals. Trauma-informed movement supports veterans in reconnecting with the body safely — without pressure, urgency, or expectation.
